Today’s Lifestyle is a Disease in itself

In India over the year with technology advancement and westernization there is tremendous change in life style of general population due to which life style diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease etc. are increasing:

There is an old proverb that says ‘prevention is better than cure.’ It is wiser to avoid a disease by following a healthy regimen of life than to contract it, and then seek remedies. Life is short, and, if a considerable part of it is taken up in inviting or not knowing diseases and then curing them, how will man manage to live a life worth the name? Every effort should be made to prevent health, troubles and difficulties.

In a recent few studies the largest disease burden or DALY rate increase from 1990 to 2016 was 80 percent for diabetes and 34 percent for ischemic heart disease. Another study published in the international journal Pediatric Obesity in October predicted that India would have over 17 million obese children by 2025 and would stand second among the 184 countries fighting childhood obesity. In a study by Imperial College London, pegged the number of people with high blood pressure to around 1.13 billion, of which around 200 million are Indians.

WHERE WE ARE:

  • Over 61 per cent of all deaths in India are due to lifestyle or non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
  • 26 per cent of all deaths in India happen due to cardiovascular diseases.
  • Every 12th Indian is said to be a diabetic.
  • 7 per cent of women and 18.6 per cent of men have been found to be overweight or obese.
  • More than 10 per cent of the country’s population over the age of 18 suffers from various kinds of mental illnesses
  • More than 1.73 million new cancer cases are likely to be recorded each year by 2020 in India.
  • 25-40 million people in India could be suffering from food allergies.
  • India had an estimated 22.2 million chronic COPD patients and around 35 million chronic asthma patients in 2016

What all is needed: There is a need of self-realization, sensitization about health, lifestyle, and happiness. People need to look into their living, thinking, eating habits and sedentary life style stress full mind etc and its correction. There should be a “me” time in everyone’s life which means first to give time to yourself then to others if you are healthy then only be able to take care of your responsibilities, family and work.
