RISK FACTORS:
- Age: blood pressure rises with the age in both sexes. As one gets, the number of collagen fibres in the artery and arteriolar wall rises, making them stiffer. This reduced elasticity decrease the cross sectional area of the blood vessels leading to rising of blood pressure.
- Family history: children born to hypertensive parents are at high risk of developing HT then those born to non-hypertension one. A shared environment in the family like diet, exercise, smoking habits etc. may its implications for development of HT.
- Obesity: higher the weight, greater the risk of development of Hypertension.
- Excess salt intake: salt contains odium, which retains the fluid in the body that raises the blood pressure.
- Diet: A diet rich in saturated fatty acid and poor in vitamins and fibers increase the risk of HT
- Addiction: Alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking both are link with increase in blood pressure.
- Physical inactivity: people who are inactive are tend to have higher rate. The higher rate the harder the heart must work with each contraction putting a stronger force on the arteries. Lack of exercise also increase the risk of being over weight.
- Mental stress: Stress lead to increase secretion of catecholamine in the body, which increase the blood pressure. If the stress factors is not tackled, BP remain elevated chronically.

- DIETARY MANAGEMENT
- Maintain healthy life style by maintaining adequate nutrition
- Regularize your eating habit by taking food at regular interval of time
- Avoid fried food
- Avoid high salt content foods.
- Sprinkle lemon juice over vegetables instead of habit salt.
- Take food rich in fibre like vegetable and fruit apple, orange, carrot, tomato, beans etc.
- Do not skip a meal.
- Avoid Pickles, Chutneys, Pappads, salted nuts, chips etc. which contain lot salt.
- Eat food rich in antioxidant like citrus fruit, papaya, tomatoes, grains, cereals, potatoes, green leafy vegetables.
- Avoid baked dishes, which have baking powder.
- YOGIC MANAGEMENT
